After playing a couple of seasons in Yahoo's public football leagues I decided to see if I could find some friends, passionate about fantasy football, and put together a league of our own.
Thus, in 2001, The World League of Fantasy Football was born. Our inaugural season began with eight teams from across North America.
In our second and third seasons the league increased to 10 franchises.
Years four and five saw the league grow again to 12 teams and in our fifth season we moved from Yahoo! Football to AOL League Manager as our host website.
Our league popularity continued to grow and, after season five, we had a waiting list of managers wanting to join. Taking this opportunity we expanded to 16 teams and four divisions in season six.
The league then added franchise players who would be carried over from year to year for continuity. And, in 2007, we added a European-style football (soccer) division hierarchy where top franchises move up and bottom franchises move down divisions.
During the Summer of 2008 AOL purchased another fantasy football website, FleaFlicker, where they transferred all their leagues. Thus it became the third website to host our league since its inception.
In the future, as in the past, we will continue to tweak and improve the league thanks to suggestions from our managers. We are always striving for the best fantasy football experience!
